In the sequel he still adores his little girls but manages to strike up a love interest. Returning characters for the flick includes the hilarious minions and Gru's gadget man Dr. Nefario, voiced by Russell Brand.
The film which was a hit the first time around turned out to be a mega box office success between Friday to Sunday in North America making $82.5 million, according to Time.
The film received an A rating from the large audience which featured 60% female, 50% under the age of 17 and 55% under 25.
When the first film was released back in 2010, it opened the weekend after the fourth of July and made $56.4 million.
According to Yahoo! Finance, "Despicable Me 2" has had the fourth highest grossing opening weekend for an animated film, just above "Monster's University" which made $82.4 million during its opening weekend.
"Despicable Me 2" is said to be hovering around the $300 million mark where as "Monster's University" is currently at $400 million. Gru and his minions are expected to easily bring in at least $700 million worldwide by the time the film has had its run.
