Horror franchise "Scream" is being rebooted into a television series on MTV, reports Variety.

The network has ordered ten episodes of the forthcoming small-screen adaptation. The series is set to premiere on October 2015.

MTV took to Twitter to announce the news. The post includes a cryptic message filled with emojis that appear to be referencing the Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson film and a phone number. When you try to call the number, a male voice will answer and ask "Do you like scary TV?" before announcing the news about the show.

The one-hour project, which will be produced in partnership with Dimension TV, has been in development since May 2013, says Entertainment Weekly.

The show stars Willa Fitzgerald as Emma, a popular girl in the high school where the series is set; Bex Taylor Klaus as Audrey, an introvert artist; John Karna who plays Noah Foster, a tech nerd; Connor Weil as Will, an athlete; and Amadeus Serafini who plays Kieran, the mysterious new kid at school. Also included in the cast are Carlson Young as Brook Maddox, Joel Gretsch as Sheriff Clark Hudson and Tracey Middendofr as Maggie.

The pilot episode will be penned by Jay Beattie and Dan Dworkin, who both have worked on "Criminal Minds" and "Revenge," according to The Hollywood Reporter. Ravenswood writer Jill Blotevogel will run the show and executive produce and "Faking It's" Jamie Travis will direct.

The show will be executive produced by Harvey and Bob Weinstein. Wes Craven, Cathy Konrad, Tony DiSanto, Liz Gateley and Marianne Maddalena will also executive produce. Matthew Signer and Keith Levine are producers.

The involvement of the iconic Ghostface character, who in the first "Scream" movie went after Sidney Prescott played by Neve Campbell, is yet to be determined. R.J. Torbert, who holds the rights to the character, released a statement via his website, saying: "Ghost Face is not involved in the new format ... it does not mean, that Ghost Face will not be involved at a later date ... However, as of now, there is no involvement."
