Marcia Strassman, known for her roles in the "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" franchise and "Welcome Back, Kotter," died of breast cancer Saturday at 66 years old, The New York Daily News reported.
Strassman's appearances in film and television slowed down after her diagnosis with Stage IV metastatic breast cancer in March 2007.
It was in 2009 when she confirmed that her cancer had spread to her bones and therefore cannot be removed by surgery.
Strassman said she wanted to dedicate her finals years advocating for breast cancer awareness, according to her March 2009 interview with Coping Magazine.
Accoriding to the actress, she was determined to be the one in control of her health and life, and not her cancer. She wanted to inspire those with cancer, along with cancer survivors to do the same.
"I am alive, and I am living a full, active life," she told the mag. "I know it sounds very cliché, but I try to 'live for the moment.'"
"She was the funniest, smartest person I ever met," Julie, Strassman's sister, said to Deadline. "And talented. She knew everything. Now I won't be able to call her and ask her questions."
"She had more friends than anyone in the world," Julie added. "She could do anything. She made clothes, made curtains, knitted sweaters for friends. She could dance."
There were no plans as of yet for Strassman's service, but her sister Julie asked fans to support organizations fighting cancer and donate in her sister's name.
"So sad that a sweet friend, kind person and wonderful actress lost her brave battle with cancer," "Curb Your Enthusiasm" director Bob Weide tweeted on Sunday.
Singer Cher also tweeted her condolences on Sunday, writing: "Wanted U2 No,a Funny, Talented Friend Died. Not 4 U 2 feel sorry 4 me,but she died alone, & Energy from U is powerful & Sends 'Marsha Strassman.'"
Strassman's career spanned five decades. She started off with a guest appearance on "The Patty Duke Show" before appearing in six episodes of "M*A*S*H" as nurse Margie Cutler. She appeared in "Welcome Back, Kotter" as high school teacher Gabe Kotter, and in both "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" and "Honey, I Blew Up the Kid" as Diane Szalinski.
Strassman was born Apr. 28, 1948 in New York.
