Keyboard player Isaiah "Ikey" Owens passed away at the age of 38, according to Us Weekly.
Owens, who had been on tour with Jack White at the time of his passing, was found dead in his hotel room in Puebla, Mexico on Tuesday, October 14. A local paper that covered the incident claimed there were marijuana and alcohol in his room, says an article from The Hollywood Reporter.
White has decided to cancel the rest of his tour in Mexico out of respect for his death. The musician also released a statement about the sad occasion on his website, which reads: "It is with great sadness that we tell the world of the passing of the incredible musician Isaiah "Ikey" Owens. He will be missed and loved forever by his family, friends, bandmates and fans."
The statement continued with a tribute to the keyboardist: "Ikey Owens was an astounding keyboard player in Jack White's backing band. He also played with Mars Volta, Free Moral Agents, and many other projects. Out of respect for Ikey, the remaining shows of the Jack White Tour in Mexico have been canceled."
"We will all miss you, Ikey. You were and are an incredible artist," White's statement concludes.
Apart from White, Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea also paid tribute to the late musician and took to Twitter to share his message, saying: "ikey beautiful ikey oh man love what a beautiful dude."
Former The Mars Volta bandmate Cedric Bixler-Zavala spoke of the keyboardist's passing via a Twitter post saying: "I am proud to have played with Ikey Owens. I will miss him dearly. Let's keep his mother and brothers close 2 our hearts & in our prayers."
Owens also worked with De Facto, Long Beach Dub All Stars, and Look Daggers. But aside from playing as a backing keyboardist, he also reportedly worked on a solo studio effort under the name Free Moral Agents, according to The Guardian.
While some reports say the cause of Owens' death was still undetermined, Rolling Stone reports that it was because of a heart attack.
