Kenan Thompson is reportedly exiting "Saturday Night Live" following the upcoming season.
Sources connected to NBC's late night sketch comedy and variety show told TMZ that the 36-year-old comedian planned to leave last season (Season 39), but creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels, convinced him to stay for Season 40.
Sources also told the celebrity gossip site that the "Snakes on a Plane" star will leave the Primetime Emmy-winning show on great terms with no hard feelings. Tipsters added that he is in negotiations to star in a new show and plans on moving to Los Angeles with his wife and baby right after the upcoming season wraps up.
But a spokesperson for "Saturday Night Live" told BuzzFeed that the TMZ report is "inaccurate as the season hasn't even started and cast decisions aren't made until the end of the season."
TMZ updated their report, reiterating that their story is not based on "Saturday Night Live's" decision. "It's Kenan's decision, and we know he's already made it," the news site wrote.
Thompson, who joined the show back in 2003, is the most veteran member of the current cast, and the longest-tenured African-American cast member in the history of the series. He has been performing sketch comedy even before he first appeared on "Saturday Night Live." He played various roles on Nickelodeon's sketch comedy-variety show "All That" from 1994 to 1999.
On "Saturday Night Live," Thompson is known for his wide variety of impressions, including Charles Barkley and Al Sharpton, and recurring characters like DeAndre Cole of "What Up With That" and Jean K. Jean.
In July 2013, Entertainment Weekly asked Thompson if he has already thought of exiting the show, and he responded, "I'm never leaving."
Season 40 of "Saturday Night Live" premieres this weekend with funnyman host Chris Pratt and musical guest Ariana Grande. Former cast member Sarah Silverman will host the following weekend, and Bill Hader is also set to return to host a fall episode, NBC Bay Area reported.
