Andie MacDowell has joined the cast of "Magic Mike XXL," Variety reported.

The 56-year-old actress had previously worked with Steven Soderbergh, the director of the first "Magic Mike" film, in the 1989 independent drama film "Sex, Lies, and Videotape." Directed and written by Soderbergh, the critically acclaimed flick tells the story of a sexually repressed man who is having an affair with her wife's sister. MacDowell received a Golden Globe nomination for her performance in the film, while Soderbergh earned an Academy Award nod for Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen.

Meanwhile, Jada Pinkett Smith is in negotiations to also join the cast, Deadline reported. Will Smith's 43-year-old wife is said to play an owner of a strip club.

Channing Tatum will reprise his titular role with Alex Pettyfer, Matt Bomer and Joe Manganiello also returning. However, fan-favorite Matthew McConaughey will not be part of the sequel, director Gregory Jacobs recently revealed to Indie Wire.

Jacobs, who served as first assistant director in the first film, is directing from a script written by Reid Carolin and Tatum.

And though "Magic Mike" director Soderbergh had given up his director's chair, he is still heavily involved with the project.

"I want to be there, but I don't want to be the director," Soderbergh said in an interview for GQ's June cover story. "I want to be a part of it. I want to be in the band, but I just don't want to be the frontman this time."

Soderbergh has signed on as the sequel's director of photography, camera operator and film editor, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Jacobs told Indie Wire that the sequel will be very different from the original movie. "It's road trip movie and put it this way, it's different enough that once you see it you'll understand why we made a sequel. No one will be accusing us of making the same movie twice," he said.

Tatum and his producing partner Reid Carolin are producing along with Jacobs.

"Magic Mike" only has a $7 million production budget, but it grossed $113.7 million in the US and $53.5 million in international markets, according to Box Office Mojo.
