Veteran Las Vegas entertainer Pia Zadora has already been released from hospital after sustaining head injury, fractured right jaw and fractured ankle in a golf cart accident that took place last week near their house in Summerlin.
Zadora's representative Eileen Koch said in an email to The Associated Press Monday, Sept. 15, that the singer-actress was released from University Medical Center in Las Vegas and plans to travel to Los Angeles next week for surgery for a compound ankle fracture.
Zadora fell from a golf cart driven by her 17-year-old son, Jordan, as it made a left turn on a street near their house in Summerlin at about 5:45 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, Mike Jeffries, husband of the 61-year-old veteran entertainer, told Las Vegas Sun.
The performances of the Hoboken, New Jersey-born singer last weekend and this coming weekend at Piero's Italian Restaurant were canceled.
Zadora was supposed to start rehearsals Monday at the Palms for an entertainment showcase for Las Vegas hotel executives of her new and expanded Las Vegas version of her hit Metropolitan Room cabaret show "Pia Reloaded" in New York, but apparently this showcase is on hold as she recovers from the injuries she sustained in the ill-fated incident.
"She's a fighter," her producer and director Jeff Kutash told Las Vegas Sun. "She's already making remarkable progress after what was a real touch-and-go situation."
"I'm sure that she won't be recuperating for as many months as they've said," he added. "She's already asking when she can leave to go out for dinner."
Kutash also teased about Zadora's upcoming Las Vegas showcase, saying, "Just wait till you see what we have created. Pia is sensational in it, and she really brings the goods. She's incredibly good, and I know that will be the driving force for her recovery."
"It was all planned for the showcase at the Palms. We had a date in mind three or four weeks from now. All the hotel entertainment executives up and down the Strip were to be invited. It's truly a knock-your-socks-off experience," he continued.
"Now we have to wait till she says she's ready, but I'm confident she'll be back better than ever and with the brand new show. We're pleased that she's feeling and getting better so quickly," he added. "We think it's a good sign that she'll be up for the new show sooner than we all think."
Zadora rose to prominence as a member of the original Broadway cast of "Fiddler on the Roof," according to The Hollywood Reporter. She later segued to music and acting, and won the Golden Globe in 1982 for New Star of the Year in a Motion Picture for her performance in Matt Cimber's crime drama "Butterfly," which was one of the last few films that starred Orson Welles.
Her memorable big-screen cameos are her appearances in the 1989 adventure film "Troop Beverly Hills" and in the 1994 comedy flick "Naked Gun 33 1/3," according to E! News.
