Pia Zadora has been hospitalized in intensive care after sustaining head injury and fractured ankle in a golf cart accident.
Zadora fell from a golf cart driven by her 17-year-old son, Jordan, as it made a left turn on a street near their house in Summerlin at about 5:45 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, Mike Jeffries, husband of the 61-year-old veteran entertainer, told Las Vegas Sun.
The singer-actress suffered a compound fracture of her right ankle and a head injury leading to bleeding on her brain, Jeffries said. She is currently in intensive care at University Medical Center and has been in and out of consciousness, but is improving, Jeffries added.
Zadora's prognosis is "very good," a rep for the veteran Las Vegas performer told The Hollywood Reporter.
"Pia is resting comfortably and has been moved out of trauma care, but still remains in ICU," a rep for Zadora told E! News. "When she improves, she will have ankle surgery in Los Angeles in the next week or so."
The performances of the Hoboken, New Jersey-born singer this weekend and next at Piero's Italian Restaurant, where she sings with a band led by pianist Vinnie Falcone, have been canceled.
Zadora rose to prominence as a member of the original Broadway cast of "Fiddler on the Roof" opposite Zero Mostel. She later segued to music and acting, and won the Golden Globe in 1982 for New Star of the Year in a Motion Picture for her performance in Matt Cimber's crime drama "Butterfly," which was one of the last few films that starred Orson Welles.
Her memorable big-screen cameos are her appearances in the 1989 adventure film "Troop Beverly Hills" and in the 1994 comedy flick "Naked Gun 33 1/3," according to E! News.
Just last month, she launched a new musical review called "Pia Reloaded," which celebrated her life and career. It was directed by award-winning producer Jeff Kutash.
