After months of speculations and wishes among fans, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts confirmed Friday, Sept. 12, that a new attraction based on the hit animated musical film "Frozen" is coming to Epcot theme park in Florida.
"I'm pleased to say that we're starting construction at Walt Disney World Resort on a brand new "Frozen" attraction at the Norway Pavilion in Epcot," Tom Staggs, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, wrote on the official Disney Parks blog.
The yet-to-be named attraction will replace Maelstrom - a ride which opened in the summer of 1988 and takes guests on small Viking ships into various scenes of Norwegian history, according to Entertainment Weekly.
The upcoming "Frozen" ride will take riders straight to Arendelle and immerse them in many of their favorite moments and music from the Oscar-winning film.
"The pavilion will also include a royal greeting location where Anna and Elsa can meet our guests. We think these 'Frozen' elements are great complements to the Norway Pavilion, which showcases the country and region that inspired the film," added Staggs.
Staggs did not mention when the attraction would open, Reuters noted.
Disney also announced that "Frozen's" characters will have a bigger presence at Magic Kingdom Park this holiday season. Apart from their ongoing appearances, Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, and Olaf will now be part of "Mickey's Once Upon a Christmastime Parade." Cinderella's Castle will also transform into Queen Elsa's Ice Palace each night during the entire Christmas holiday season.
Disney is also extending some fan-favorite elements of its "Frozen Summer Fun LIVE!" Staggs announced that Wandering Oaken's will set up shop closer to the show during the entire holiday season and will feature a larger play area with real snow.
"Frozen," which features the voices of Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff, Josh Gad and Santino Fontana, grossed $400.7 million in the US and $873.5 million in international markets.
