Simone Battle had been struggling with money issues before committing suicide, TMZ reported.

In an attempt to help out with their investigation, friends and family members of the G.R.L. singer told law enforcement that the late "X Factor" contestant had been depressed over money issues, according to the celebrity gossip website.

Battle's family reportedly could not understand why the singer was having money problems when in fact her group had just finished an overseas tour.

People close to the 25-year-old Los Angeles, California-born singer also told the police that she was frustrated that the group has not yet made it big to the US and worried that they never would.

But while the all-girl group is not yet a big name in the US, they already scored their first U.K. hit this week with their single "Ugly Heart," according to Huffington Post UK.

Battle was found dead, hanging from a clothing rod in a bedroom closet of her West Hollywood home at around 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 5. Battle's boyfriend was the one who discovered her body.

Two days later, her death was ruled a suicide by hanging, said Los Angeles County Coroner's Lt. Fred Corral, according to the Associated Press.

Battle's father, Anthony, told TMZ that his daughter had not spoken to him on the phone in a few weeks but he said that they had texted every day and she seemed to be doing just fine.

When asked if his daughter was battling depression, Anthony said he was unaware of anything like that. He, however, acknowledged, "It's possible she may have had an invisible disability."

Sources also told the celebrity gossip website that close friends of the "X Factor" alum spoke with her through text the night before she committed suicide, and they, too, did not feel anything was wrong.

"Can't believe what I woke up to today," a close friend of Simone's (who wishes to remain anonymous), previously told Hollywood Life. "Simone Battle you will forever be missed. One of the sweetest souls I've ever met."
