For Shuhei Yoshida, president of PlayStation Worldwide Studios, Sony's virtual reality (VR) technology for the PlayStation 4 is so revolutionary that it gives the company an unfair advantage over its competitors, according to Gamespot.

Currently, Sony is working on Project Morpheus, a headset that utilizes VR technology designed for the PlayStation 4 and the company's latest handheld console, the PlayStation Vita.

"We have something here that we've never experienced before," Yoshida said while referring to Project Morpheus."

"Working on game development, we always try to create a new kind of experience, and having VR technology is almost unfair," he added.

Sony envisions Project Morpheus as a ground-breaking tool that will bring about the next level in gaming experience.

The company first unveiled its VR headset in March of this year and tested it with various newly developed games. One of those is "The Deep," a VR game which offers Project Morpheus users a chance to explore the underwater world, Kotaku reported.

Recalling his experience playing the game using the VR headset, Yoshida said Project Morpheus made him feel like he was really out in the open water.

"I'm a good swimmer, but I've never tried diving, so the experience of 'The Deep' was eye-opening for me," he said. "When the demo starts you're in a cage. You can look up and see the reflection of the sun on the water."

"It's really beautiful," he added. "After a few days, looking back on that experience is interesting because it's kind of raw in my memory - as if I was actually in the sea."

For now, Sony has not yet announced an official release date for Project Morpheus. Yoshida explained that before the company rolls out the new device, they have to make sure that the VR headset is up to par with the constantly changing technological trend, according to The Verge.

"We need to deliver the core technology first," he said. "We want to make the technology before we bring it to the market."

"The product we have we're pretty happy with, but there are many areas we can improve on to bring it to an even higher level," he added. "And the technology advances every month."
