Nick Cannon has finally opened up following his controversial split from Mariah Carey and has confirmed that they are currently living separately.

After a six-year marriage, both Cannon and Carey mutually agreed to live in separate homes and this has been their set-up for the past couple of months, according to MTV News.

In a recent interview with "The Insider with Yahoo," Cannon was seen addressing the news and was heard saying, "There is trouble in paradise. We have been living in separate houses for a few months."

However, Cannon was also adamant at denying rumors that their split had to do with his cheating. Instead, he stressed that his main focus is currently on his kids, Seattle PI noted.

Back in May, Cannon denied during his interview with Parade that he and estranged husband Carey were at the verge of splitting up. At that time, he called the rumors ridiculous and stressed that "there's no merit or truth" to it. "It couldn't be further off from the truth," he said.

As of late, Mariah's representative has not yet commented regarding the issue and the "Hero" singer who is currently busy with her children and upcoming tour has been mum through it all.

A source meanwhile told E! News that Carey is heartbroken over their split. "She is heartbroken. This has been going on for months. It has a lot to do with Nick's career choices. He does not have to work, but he's been throwing himself into gigs and projects."

Cannon and Carey wed in 2008 and were blessed with three-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe. The estranged couple fondly calls their children "Dem Babies," MTV News noted.

Meanwhile, both artists have also collaborated in Carey's "Love Story" music video.

Cannon and Carey's split also meant that this is the first time in six years that the two did not renew their wedding vows, a tradition that they have always been known for, Seattle PI noted.
