Actress Meg Ryan and rock singer John Mellencamp's romance is over after the two decided to split despite being faithful to each other.

The 52-year-old "Sleepless in Seattle" star and the 62-year-old "Jack & Diane" hit maker called it quits after exclusively dating for more than three years, Us Weekly first reported.

According to a source close to the ex-couple, "the distance got to be too much" for their romance to handle.

While the "When Harry Met Sally" actress is residing in New York, Mellencamp is living in an Indiana farm; hence, it was inevitable that their long-distance relationship would soon enough end.

"It was the distance. She lives in New York and he resides in Indiana. It was the long distance that ultimately was the cause," an insider told Perez Hilton.

Additionally, apart from the distance between them, their busy schedules may have also contributed to their breakup.

As of late, Ryan is busy with her directorial debut, "Ithaca," as well as preparing for her special participation as the narrator on the "How I Met Your Mother" spinoff "How I Met Your Dad," Daily Mail has learned.

In contrast, the "Pink Houses" rocker is preoccupied with his preparations for his upcoming album "Plain Spoken."

Furthermore, there are also sources who are claiming that the breakup was a product of the significant publicity Mellencamp has been receiving since he began dating the famous actress.

"I don't think he loved all the attention he got just from dating an actress," said a source, adding, "I bet he'll stay away from dating another famous person for a while."

Ryan and Mellencamp began dating in 2010, just a couple of months after the singer-songwriter ended his marriage to his wife of eighteen years Elaine Irwin Mellecamp.

On the other hand, at the time, Ryan was long divorced from her first husband, Dennis Quaid. The "You've Got Mail" star tied the knot with Quaid in 1991 and officially split in 2001.

Ryan's rep was not available for a comment while Mellencamp's rep has declined to address the issue, according to Fox News.
