‘The Voice’ Mentor Usher Talks Tameka Foster Split In New Interview

Usher learned a lot in the time he was married to Tameka Foster. He is now explaining to O Magazine how the split was beneficial. Find out what "The Voice" coach had to say!

"Getting married at 28," Usher replied when asked about his best mistakes.

"Most people probably think I regret it because I ended up getting divorced, but it helped me learn that sometimes I think I know more than I actually do."

The "U Remind Me" crooner was granted full custody of their two children in 2012.

He also explained how James Brown offered him some of the best advice.

"'If you stay ready, you ain't gonna get ready.' James Brown told me that right before we performed together at the Grammys in 2005," Usher said.

"I've never forgotten it, and I'm always telling people, 'Well, James Brown once told me..."'

Family is a top priority for the R&B heartthrob, and revealed he enjoys "red-cup celebrations."

"Everybody's hanging out on the lawn, drinking out of those plastic cups, eating fried chicken and dancing to loud old-school music," Usher explained. "Sometimes the simpler the celebration, the better."

Usher released "Good Kisser" back in May, the first single off his eighth studio album.

He told Fader at South by Southwest that "it's gonna be freaking out of here, man. Space and sky, that's what it'll be. You look up, and it's everything you can imagine."

The "There Goes My Baby" crooner also told People how important a kiss is when it comes to love.

"A kiss is everything," Usher tells the mag. "You can always tell there's something great about a person from the way they kiss. If they can't kiss, you're like, 'Oh no, this is not going to work.' "

"The wetter, the better," he adds. "[But] it has to be electrifying from the first touch - you know it's incredible."
