Although Demi Lovato has openly admitted about her past drug and alcohol abuse, the "Neon Lights" singer recently admitted that even after two years of being sober she still struggles and fights a constant battle with her addictions.
According to Entertainment Wise, although she does see herself as a "beacon of hope" for the next generation, the starlet opened up in an emotional new interview with the Daily Mail's You magazine.
Wilmer Valderrama's girlfriend admitted sometimes she does out of the box activities in order to avoid feeding into her negative desires.
She explained, "When I was impulsive before, I was making bad choices, so this is a way of expressing myself that is harmless," adding, "Some days, you just want to dye your hair pink, and I am not afraid to do that."
Demi Lovato also admitted to attending AA meetings. She explained, "It's being able to do that that makes me feel normal in this world that is not normal at all."
She confessed that her approach to abstaining from alcohol is to take things "one day at a time." Selena Gomez's on again, off again best friend said, "If I think that I am never going to be able to have a glass of wine with dinner, I get anxious.
"And sometimes I do feel like I want to go to a bar and have some shots, but I know where I will be in six weeks' or six months' time if I do."
Lovato continued, "We are a different breed, we [are] alcoholics, but it is just like having any other disease - you have to learn to live with it."
The "Let It Go" singer admitted that it took her parents saying that she would no longer be able to see her little sister, Madison that got that former Disney starlet to a turning point in her life.
She explained, "Mom saying that made me realize that my life was a shambles and, although I had a lot of success, I was also very alone and miserable," adding, "I love Madison and one of the main reasons I wanted to get better was because I didn't want to be apart from her."
Demi Lovato, 21, also chatted a bit about dating her 34-year-old boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama because he's older and more mature.
She said, "The problem when you go public with a personal relationship is that when it ends, it ends publicly as well."
She even hinted that there relationship is going quite well at the moment. The Twitter lover confessed, "I would be slightly overwhelming for somebody who is not at a level of maturity to support me mentally."
