This weekend marked the one year anniversary of Cory Monteith's death, so there's no surprise why his former girlfriend Lea Michele opted to lay low and get out of town during the difficult time.

According to E! News, the "Glee" season 6 spent the anniversary of former boyfriend Cory Monteith's death at the San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito alongside her girlfriends and boyfriend, Matthew Paetz.

A source revealed, "She was in Los Angeles when she got the news that Cory died," adding, "So she was not going to stay in LA over his anniversary."

The insider said that the group had a great time, relaxing and hanging out at the spa. However, Lea Michele did take some time to post a special message for the late actor on her Twitter account.

The 27-year-old posted a photo of Cory Monteith hugging her with the caption, "We hold you in our hearts today, and every day we remember your smile. We will love you and miss you always."

Following the devstating loss, Michele first broke her silence about the tragedy while accepting a Teen Choice Award in August 2013. Through tears she told the audience, "For all of you out there who loved and admired Cory as much as I did, I promise that with your love, we're going to get through this together.

"He was very special to me and also to the world, and we were very lucky to witness his incredible talent, his handsome smile and his beautiful, beautiful heart. So whether you knew him personally or just as Finn Hudson, Cory reached out and he became a part of all of our hearts, and that's where he'll stay forever."

The actor, 31, was found dead in his Vancouver hotel room at the Fairmont Pacific Hotel on July 13, 2013. Cory Monteith died from a mixed drug toxicity of heroin and alcohol found in his system.
