'American Horror Story' Co-Creator Ryan Murphy Says 'Gone Girl' Star Neil Patrick Harris May Appear In One Or Two Episodes Of 'Freak Show'

Neil Patrick Harris is heading to Elsa Mars' freak show!

During a conference call earlier this week, "American Horror Story" co-creator Ryan Murphy revealed that he already talked with Harris about his appearance on "Freak Show," the newest installment of the FX anthology series.

"I spoke to Neil a week ago," Murphy said, according to E! News. "He was fresh off his wedding. Obviously we have worked together before, I'm working on something and hopefully we will talk next week."

"He's game," added the 48-year-old screenwriter and director. "He had very specific ideas of what he wanted to do, and I had very specific ideas, so we're melding them. He's awesome, one of our great entertainers, and I would love to see him and Jessica Lange go at it in some intriguing way."

"Because of his schedule, something we're thinking about, maybe one episode and then another one later on," Murphy explained.

Last July, the 41-year-old "How I Met Your Mother" actor confessed to Mario Correa of Entertainment Weekly Radio (SiriusXM 105) that he loves the horror anthology series so much that he actually wrote Murphy a letter asking to be on "Freak Show."

Murphy responded to Harris on Twitter, saying that there is a role available for him if he wants it.

"@ActuallyNPH of course you can be on Freak Show! I have a role I think you'd love," Murphy wrote on the microblogging site.

In an interview with Vulture last month, Harris opened up about why he loves the anthology series.

"I just watched the end of 'American Horror Story: Coven,' and not only is the content amazing, the conceit of the show, but the people that they have are extraordinary!" the "Gone Girl" actor said. "Jessica Lange is so good! All of them, they're all uniformly talented. So to get to play in that sandbox would be a great bucket-list moment."

He added: "Ooooh ... I do have a two-headed cow fetus in a jar in my office. [Laughs.] If that doesn't prove my deep-seated love and commitment to all things freaks, I don't know what does."
