Sony Quietly Unveils Digital Paper E Ink Tablet

Without any prior big announcements or official press releases, tech-giant Sony has begun selling its Digital Paper E Ink device through its website. Apparently, the company's e-reader/tablet hybrid has been available since May of this year, CNET reported.

The Digital Paper can be purchased online through the company's website and officially licensed resellers. For now, it is only available to consumers residing inside the U.S.

Based on the device's updated website, the Digital Paper features a 13-inch display. As compared to other e-readers, the gadget's large size makes it easier for users to read PDF documents.

Aside from functioning as a PDF reader, the Digital Paper can also be used as an electronic notepad. Users can take down notes on the device using a stylus.

Unlike traditional tablets, users can rest their palms on the screen without disturbing what is currently displayed on it. This feature makes it easier for users to write on the Digital Paper.

Sony added that the Digital Paper makes use of the Cloud network which allows users to access their synced documents anywhere and with any device. The system also enables them to share their work with their colleagues.

"Using a service like Box.com, Digital Paper lets you transfer your documents to and from the Cloud - wirelessly," Sony stated on the Digital Paper's site. "Then view them, annotations and all, on any other device of your choosing, whether it's a tablet, PC, Mac, or smartphone."

"You can read, annotate and save a PDF, then share it with you colleagues via your Box.com account," the company added.

Although Sony is selling the Digital Paper, it does not have a customer support system dedicated to addressing issues with product, Good E Reader has learned.

The site speculated that this is probably because the product is intended for business professionals who have their own IT personnel to assist them with potential problems concerning the Digital Paper.

The specific and limited target market could also be the reason why Sony decided not to issue a press release for the device.
