Natural Hair And Relaxed Perm Hair: Tips & Tricks For Texlaxed Hair

We've been hearing a lot of debate about 'texlaxed' hair. The discussion about the benefits and drawbacks will continue to rage on, but check out these great tips, tricks, and myth debunkers that can help you to decide if texlaxing is right for you.

What is Tex-Lax Hair? 'Texlaxed' is a hybrid between your naturally textured hair and the straightened hair result you get from a relaxer. The relaxer is left on for a shorter amount of time, so you get tresses straighter than they would be naturally, but more textured than they would be with a full-on perm.

The Source of Debate. With the relaxer left in for a minimal amount of time, there are differing schools of thought on the process. Some believe this is a mild way to use straightening chemicals on still natural hair, while others still very much deem the style a perm, no matter how long or short the chemicals are left on locks.

Timing is Everything. If you like the look of texlaxed hair and want to try it, you must prep your materials beforehand and pre-plan how you will divide and conquer. The key to the look is keeping the perm on hair for a brief amount of time, which must be kept uniform on all sections of the head so that the textured result looks the same all around.

Leaving your relaxer on too long will ruin the result you're after. And whatever you do, don't comb the relaxer through your tresses. Smoothing it through can also ruin the textured effect you want.

Protect and Pamper Often. Straightening hair always runs the risk of creating damage and breakage.  Adding chemicals to hair means you have to add more to your maintenance routine. So be kind to your crown with routine deep condition treatments, daily hydration, scalp oiling, and the trinity of DIY hair care: coconut oil, olive oil, and castor oil.
