Catherine Duchess of Cambridge looked like a princess out of a fairy-tale on Tuesday, December 3rd, when she and Prince William attended a white-tie diplomatic reception hosted by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace.

According to Us Weekly, Kate Middleton followed tradition, as she wore a tiara for the Diplomatic Christmas Reception at Buckingham Palace.

The magazine reported that the bejeweled headpiece appeared to be the Papyrus Tiara, which featured papyrus-shaped mounts framed in scrolls, with arching diamond trails and pearl accents.

The crown originally belonged to the Queen Mother with Queen Elizabeth II loaning it to Middleton for the event.

The tiara sat on top of Catherine the Duchess of Cambridge's recently dyed dark brunette hair, which she wore in a half-up, half-down style. She also sported an Alexander McQueen gown.

The fashion savvy royal has not been photographed in a tiara since her April 2011 wedding, when she wore the Cartier "halo" tiara.

That particular piece was made in 1936 and purchased by King George VI for his wife. The "halo" tiara was then given to Queen Elizabeth II for her 18th birthday and lent to Middleton for her marriage to Prince William.

However, for her most recent event the crown accompanied the royal to the reception which is an annual engagement that honors 172 foreign missions currently accredited to the Court of St. James's in London.

The Queen, along with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and other attending royals, will meet with every head of mission in the Buckingham Palace Ballroom.

The publication estimates that 1,500 people have been invited from more than 130 countries.
