Pippa Middelton and her brother James are set to cycle on a 3,000 mile journey across the US. Starting Saturday the Duchess of Cambridge's siblings will ride from Oceanside, California to Annapolis, Maryland.

They are part of an eight person team, including friend James Matthews, who registered for the Race Across America challenge. All proceeds benefit an educational charity for Matthews' brother, the Michael Matthews foundation, who passed away in 1999 during a descent from Mt. Everest. According to PEOPLE he was the youngest Brit at 22 to make the summit.

It is unclear exactly how much money the team raised for the event, but according to the Race Across America website, it costs $20,000 per person to enter.

Back in January Middleton wrote in The Telegraph about her training mechanisms.

"The major advantage of clip-in (or 'clipless', their proper and confusing name) bikes...is that because the shoe is attached to the pedal you can pull up as well as push down," it read.

"This makes a huge difference to power and efficiency and goes some way to explaining the warp speed of many urban cyclists."

Middleton is a frequent participator in charity races. She skied in an endurance ski race, Switzerland's Engadin Mountain, and the Highland Cross.

She is also an ambassador for the British Heart Foundation. In July Middleton hopes to participate in the 6.5km Bosphorus Cross-Continental Swimming Race on their behalf.

"I was shocked to learn that nearly three times more women die from coronary heart disease than breast cancer ... and I look forward to working with the BHF to highlight to women the risks of heart disease and importantly, how they can reduce them," she said in a statement.

Her custom-made bike will be up for auction on eBay after the race, and those proceeds will also go to charity.
