Macklemore donned a questionable outfit for a Seattle performance, and it was NOT his grandfather's coat.
Many went as far to claim he looked like a Jewish stereotype, the rapper insists it was random and not at all negative.
The incident took place Friday at the EMP Museum in his hometown of Seattle. Macklemore was performing at the "Spectacle: The Music Video" exhibition, where he performed "Thrift Shop" and "Can't Hold Us."
What felt wrong was the singer's costume; Macklemore opted for a wig, fake beard and a fake nose. Fans took to Twitter to share their opinions on the controversial attire.
"Want to lose your faith in humanity?" user @jaythenerdkid tweeted. "Macklemore wore a jewish stereotype costume to a concert."
Even funny man Seth Rogen could not help but poke fun at the "Thrift Shop" rapper.
"@macklemore, first you trick people into thinking you're a rapper, now you trick them into thinking you're Jewish?" he wrote, followed by retweeting Jensen Karp.
"What makes Macklemore's anti-Semitic costume even crazier is that his biggest song is about saving money."
The Daily Dot called it "some kind of Jewish caricature, prosthetic schnozz included."
The rapper, who performed with producing partner Ryan Lewis, shut down the rumors Monday.
"Fake witches nose, wig, and beard = random costume. Not my idea of a stereotype of anybody," he tweeted.
Seattle Weekly notes there was much speculation as to who would perform at the event, but the guess that made most sense and was true was Macklemore and Lewis. The crowd went wild and the blonde hunk even leaped into the audience.
"It was no secret he was the big guest everyone had been waiting for and fans 5 to 50 years old and beyond crowded into the Sky Church to have the best 15 minutes they'll experience in a very long time," writer Morgen Schuler said.
The award-winning duo donated various props from music videos to the exhibit.
