When your stomach growls and those chips, cupcakes, and cookies start to call your name, remember these seven little tips before you reach for an unhealthy snack, courtesy of Beauty4Media:

Go for the grain. Opt for whole-grain snacks such as whole-grain muesli and granola. If you're really don't have a time it's better if you have something like this in your pocket, instead of the other guilty pleasure options. They're sweet, but healthy and full of fiber!

Bring back breakfast. Many breakfast foods can be repurposed as a nutritious snack later in the day. How about a slice of whole-grain toast topped with cottage cheese? Breakfast should give you the energy for the entire day, don't forget about completing your breakfast with a supplement for your diet like a multivitamin.

Try a "hi-low" combination. The fresher the better, but when it's not the season for fresh fruits combine a small amount of dried fruits with nuts or granola - remember it's very sweet. Combine it with something with healthy fat, like peanut butter, with a larger amount of something very light, like apple slices or celery sticks or baby carrots.

Go nuts. Unsalted nuts and seeds make great snacks. Almonds, walnuts, peanuts, roasted pumpkin seeds, cashews, hazelnuts, and other nuts and seeds contain many beneficial nutrients and are more likely to leave you feeling full (unlike chips or pretzels). Nuts have lots of calories, though, so keep portion sizes small.

Snack mindfully. Don't eat your snack while doing something else like surfing the Web, watching TV, or working at your desk. Instead, stop what you're doing for a few minutes and eat your snack like you would a small meal.

Shake it. Our proposal of healthy snack during the day is to have it with you in the office and grab it whenever you feel tired and hungry. Eat 20 min before a main dish if you're willing to lose some pounds.

You can take it with you. Think ahead and carry a small bag of healthful snacks in your pocket or purse so you won't turn in desperation to the cookies at the coffee counter or the candy bars in the office vending machine.
