It looks like will be seeing a lot more of Shailene Woodley and Theo James' hot onscreen romance than we expected.
According to E! News, the final book in the Divergent series "Allegiant" will be split into split into two movies, Summit Entertainment announced the big news on Friday, April 11th.
This is not the first time a major movie franchise based on a young adult novel has turned its final book into two movies.
The final installments of three book series, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn" and "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay" all were split into two movies.
In a statement Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-chairmen Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger said, "[Author] Veronica Roth brings her captivating story to a masterful conclusion in Allegiant, a rich, action-packed book with material that is ideally suited to two strong and fulfilling movies."
The statement continued, "The storytelling arc and world of the characters lend themselves perfectly to two films, a storytelling strategy that has worked very well for us on the two Twilight Breaking Dawn films and about which we're tremendously enthusiastic for the two upcoming Mockingjay films of The Hunger Games franchise."
Since its March release "Divergent" has earned $117 million at the domestic box office in its first three weeks.
The sequel to the movie "Insurgent" is set to begin production next month and is scheduled to hit theaters on March 20, 2015.
Meanwhile "Allegiant," Parts 1 and 2 are expected to premiere on the big screen March 18, 2016, and March 24, 2017, respectively.
"Divergent" which was directed by Neil Burger starred Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Kate Winslet, Ashley Judd, Jai Courtney, Zoë Kravitz, Miles Teller, Mekhi Phifer, Tony Goldwyn, Maggie Q and Ansel Elgort.
Most of the actors will be reprising their roles in "Insurgent" and will be joined by director Robert Schwentke who is new to the franchise.
