It looks like the "Game of Thrones" has a prospective end date as co-creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have expressed that they would like to wrap the show up after seven or eight seasons.
According to E! News, in the latest issue of Vanity Fair Weiss said, "We know there's an end somewhere in the seven- or eight-season zone. It's not something that goes 10, 11-it doesn't just keep on going because it can."
He continued, "I think the desire to milk more out of it is what would eventually kill it, if we gave in to that."
Benioff told Entertainment Weekly, "It feels like this is the midpoint for us," adding, "If we're going to go seven seasons, which is the plan, season four is right down the middle, the pivot point."
Although fans may be upset, it makes sense that the show will end seeing as the television series is quickly catching up to the books written by George R.R. Martin.
However, the "Game of Thrones" co-creators are well aware of the author's plans for the world of Westeros.
They even sat down with the mastermind to "talk through where things are going, because we don't know if we are going to catch up and where exactly that would be."
David Benioff explained, "If you know the ending, then you can lay the groundwork for it. And so we want to know how everything ends. We want to be able to set things up. So we just sat down with him and literally went through every character."
Apparently Martin has given the showrunners "broad strokes" of what he intends to write. Martin in turn told Vanity Fair, "I'm hopeful that I can not let them catch up with me."
Beinoff told the magazine that it is destined for the show to wrap so that they do not tire out the presence of the show.
He admitted, "If you look at the shows that we love, it's so rare for a series to go beyond that length and maintain quality."
The creator continued, "And, you know, looking at Breaking Bad, which is probably the most consistently great show in history, and I think the fact that they decided relatively early, it's going to be five seasons and that's it, I think that was an incredibly smart choice."
