It is the holiday season, which means it is a time for giving however, it seems to be that the newest and hottest gift out right now is plastic surgery.
According to Skin Inc, a survey by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) identified facial plastic surgery as one of the top trends in 2012.
Edward H. Farrior, MD, FACS who is president of AAFPRS revealed, "Since things tend to slow down workwise in December, the holidays are the perfect time make a tweak and address something that's been nagging you about your appearance."
He added, "Holiday breaks offer the downtime you need to rest and recuperate from any procedures, plus the timing allows you to start the New Year fresh."
The survey showed that two-thirds of female patients are mothers, most of who are in their 40s.
Now, if you choose to give the gift of a cosmetic procedure or if you just want to go under the knife yourself there are a few things you should look into before moving forward.
First off, it is important to educate yourself on the procedures and treatment before visiting the doctor. That way when you are there you can have a conversation where you can become more informed.
Next, it is important that you select the right specialist who is a board-certified surgeon who specializes in plastic surgery of the face, head and neck, according to Skin Inc.
It is wise to be wary of online deals for plastic surgery, the AAFPRS even warns consumers to stay away from these deals as they can be potentially unethical and inappropriate.
