Royals seem to travel everywhere and Princess Charlene of Monaco was no exception as she made her way to Harlem where she joined First Lady Michelle Obama for lunch.

The princess attended the luncheon in Harlem, New York along with about 50 wives of dignitaries at the UN General Assembly.

The royal decided to wear a sleeveless white tailored dress, according to the Daily Mail. Prince Albert's wife joined the tour arranged by President Obama's wife, which is set up to highlight the energy of the United States and to open debates about improving the lives of women and children.

As she spoke to the crowd, the First Lady discussed Harlem's place in the early 20th century as the heart of black culture in the US. Referring to famous writers and musicians such as Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston and Louis Armstrong as prime examples.

Michelle Obama said, "Many of these men and women left the South just a couple of generations after the end of slavery, and they were desperate to find a place where they could explore their talents and express their ideas freely."

She continued, "This moment in history came to be known as the Harlem Renaissance." Mrs Obama encouraged the group to share ideas about how they are improving the lives of women and girls in their own countries.

"Everywhere I go in the world, I meet so many wonderful young girls - girls with so much promise, girls eager and desperate to learn, girls who just blossom when they get that one chance to go to school and to start scratching at the fulfillment of their potential."

Giving back seems to be something close to Princess Charlene's heart seeing as earlier this month she ditched her designer outfits for a wet suit to help raise awareness about water safety.

According to HELLO! Magazine, the former Olympic swimmer surfed the waves in Saint Geours de Maremne in Southwestern France while helping to teach children how to swim during an event organized by club Inshore Rescue Capbreton.

The initiative was part of Live to Swim day, and had 150 youths participating.
