Emmy Nominated Lead Actress and Creator of HBO's hit series Girls, Lena Dunham, knows how to create a moment. But far from the typical Hollywood starlet, Lena often bucks the system and causes us all to take notice with fresh eyes. And at this year's Emmy Awards, the star did not disappoint, with eye-catching makeup and faces that seemed to mock the whole red carpet culture. Gotta love a gal who doesn't take the pressures of Tinseltown seriously. Click through the slideshow for a few of Lena's product highlights.

We hear makeup artist, Jo Strettel, created Dunham's bright-eyed look using Marc Jacobs Cosmetics. If you've been living under a rock, Marc launched his fabulous new makeup line a couple months ago and to rave reviews. Equipped with the amazing innovations from the line, Jo dished on where the inspiration for Lena's look was drawn from.

"Lena has the most beautiful skin which is the perfect canvas for strong makeup," Strettel said. "We wanted to push the boundaries a bit while still matching the dress. Lena is wearing this stunning Prada dress with amazing colors and we wanted to play up an edgy smoky eye to be striking enough to balance the drama of the dress. We kept the color scheme the same as the dress - black outlines with green highlights."

Thank goodness for a makeup artist who's willing to give all her secrets away!  We absolutely love Dunham's eyes, which compliment her designer digs beautifully. Check out Jo's beauty breakdown below for a step-by-step guide on how to snag this eye-popping pizzazz.

For face, Jo didn't have to do much given Lena's great skin. "We blended two shades of the Marc Jacobs Beauty Genius Gel Super-Charged Foundation ($48) to achieve the perfect warmth to the skin and dusted her forehead and cheekbones with the Marc Jacobs Beauty Featherweight Perfection Powder ($46) to mattify, she explained."

Now for the main attraction of this look -- the eyes. "To create that strong eye, we lined both the upper and bottom lash lines with the Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner Gel Crayon ($25) in Blacquer to the outer ¾ of the eye to create a perfectly smudged 'V' shape," Jo said. "And for an unexpected, yet cohesive pop of color, we lined the inner corners of the eye with the same gel pencil in this gorgeous emerald green shade, Intro(vert) ($25)."  Now here's where things get smoky. "For that smoky cool look, smudge out the lines with a matching shadow. To really punctuate the eyes, connect the lashes by dotting a black liquid liner in between the lashes and wiggle the Marc Jacobs Beauty Lash Lifter Volume Mascara ($26) from the root up for a really volumized look," Strettel explained.

With so much focus on the eyes, Lena's lips were played down with Marc Jacobs Beauty Lovemarc Lip Gel in Moody Margot ($30). "We kept the lips neutral with a subtle lipstick that Lena put right in her purse for the red carpet," Jo said. For cheeks, Dunham wore Marc Jacobs Beauty Shameless Bold Blush in Rebellious ($30).

Additional products used to perfect Lena's look included Marc Jacobs Beauty Magic Marc'er Precision Pen ($30) and Marc Jacobs Beauty Style Eye-Con No. 7 Plush Shadow in The Vamp ($59)
