In the forthcoming Batman and Superman movie, Ben Affleck will play the Dark Knight. Warner Bros. recently announced that the actor will star as Batman in the "Man of Steel" sequel with Henry Cavill due out in July 2015.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Snyder said that Affleck would make the perfect Caped Crusader.

"Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry's Superman," Snyder said in a statement about casting Affleck. "He has the acting chops to create a potrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bares the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can't wait to work with him."

The film will have its own appeal, and will not be adapted from the "Batman: The Dark Knight Returns," Snyder added.

The movie director revealed the news about the flick uniting the two superheroes on the big screen for the first time at this year's Comic Con in July.

Snyder, who directed "Man of Steel" will co-write the story with David S. Goyer, who will pen the screenplay. Production will begin next year, with a July 17, 2015 release date.

Amy Adams, Diane Lane and Laurence Fishburne will reprise their "Man of Steel" characters in the sequel with Cavill and Affleck.

The "Argo" actor, of course, is familiar with the superhero genre. He starred in the wildly popular Daredevil as Marvel's blind hero in writer-director Mark Steven Johnson's 2003 film.
