Young actress Ariel Winter's estranged mother, Chrisoula "Chrystal" Workman, was denied regained custody of her daughter in her latest attempt.

Winter, 15, is currently under the care of her 34-year-old sister Shanelle Gray.  Winter, who stars as Alex Dunphy in the ABC Comedy "Modern Family," is currently under the care of her 34-year-old sister Shanelle Gray.  Last year, Ariel was removed from her mother's custody after Gray alleged that Workman was abusing Winter, 15, both physically and emotionally.

Workman had filed documents in a L.A. court in an effort to get Ariel back, but was denied her request, according to the New York Post.  The Associated Press also reported that Senior Court Judge Michael Levenas stood by his original March 29 order allowing Gray guardianship over Winter until October 16.  He added that it was not yet evident that Workman had mended her relationship with her famous daughter.

Winter's mother has denied Gray's allegations that she "slapped, hit, pushed" and starved Winter.

"I'm the one being abused here," Workman told the A.P. Wednesday.  "I'm doing this for all stage mothers.  This could happen to any of them."

A trial is scheduled for September 16 to determine whether Gray's guardianship will be made permanent.

Back in March, Ariel told Teen Vogue that she has never been happier since moving in with her sister.

"My life is definitely more normal- and that'll help me grow up like I'm supposed to.  Sunday we have family dinner.  It's just a different experience for me because I have more of a family life.  I'm really happy," she said.
