So many of us remember playing with Barbie growing up, but it looks like one young woman has taken her love for the iconic doll to a whole new level. Complete with beauty tutorials and her very own website, Valeria Lukyanova, also known as the human Barbie Doll, shows us what extreme beauty is like.
If you're thinking Valeria's looks are the product of some serious plastic surgery, well, so did we. But the real life doll claims otherwise. Lukyanova admits to using makeup and contact lenses to enhance her Barbie-like looks, but she denies getting any kind of plastic surgery. Lukyanova claims her looks are the result of "hard work."
Valeria's extreme appearance comes on the heels of another popular Barbie story I'm the press. Artist Nickolay Lamm from MySeals.com, created a 3D model of his own Barbie, but with the dimensions of the average American woman. The side-by-side comparison of the classic doll versus Lamm's is startling from head to toe.
"Average is beautiful," said Lamm. "We shouldn't compare ourselves to unrealistic beauty standards," the artist explained to the Huffington Post. Lamm goes on to tell the paper he has no plans to create an average Ken doll, but simply wanted to highlight the extreme demands placed on women regarding their looks. Nickolay's doll has reignited the conversation on body image; a huge part of what determines a person's self esteem.
