Following their split word is that Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder will be reuniting following their break up.

The former couple has been enjoying their separation on other parts of the continent after calling time on their relationship but now as the cast prepares to return to the show's set this week it looks like the former lovers will come face to face.

According to Entertainment Wise, Dobrev has been enjoying her time travel with friends and family and shooting her new film "Let's Be Cops," while her ex-boyfriend has been busy filming with Noel Clarke for their film, "The Anomaly" across the pond in London.

Although some are skeptical about the awkwardness that may occur on set the online site reported that there will be no need to cut the tension with a knife as the two are more than likely going to put their differences aside in order to shoot their hit series "The Vampire Diaries."

Entertainment Wise reported that actor Colton Haynes confirmed the break up and said, "I think you become really good friends with that person when you see them everyday anyway so I think they obviously knew that getting into a relationship.

"But I don't think it would be awkward for them. They are both well rounded people."

Somerhalder's rep confirmed that the actor will be back on set to shoot the series later this season, the rep told the site, "Yes - he will start later this month on the new season."

Although the actress' camp has yet to release a statement she talked to MTV about what fans can expect from her character's human transformation which happened at the end of last season.

Dobrev said, "I don't know that Katherine will change very much, She is who she is at her core.

"She's a human now, no longer a vampire, but she still has the same personality and the same traits, and she'll still be as conniving and crazy and manipulative as she always was.

"But she won't have all the perks of being a vampire to help her."
