This year, the nation's leading sun-protective clothing manufacturer, Coolibar, conducted a survey to find the top 10 dermatologist-recommended sunblocks.

Neutrogena came in at the number one spot, recommended the most frequently to patients. Aveenvo, endorsed by star Jennifer Aniston, came in at number two, followed by La- Roche Posay, Elta and Vanicream, respectively. Coppertone came in at number 6, with Blue Lizard taking the next spot.

Rounding off the list was Eucerin, Solbar and Fallene.

When choosing your sunscreen, however, the SPF amount is not what you should hold your focus. "SPF is not a consumer-friendly number," said Florida dermatologist, James M. Spencer, MD. "It is logical for someone to think that an SPF of 30 is twice as good as an SPF of 15 and so on. But that is not how it works."

Several dermatologists recommend SPF 30. The general rule is that sunscreens with higher SPFs block "slightly more" UVB rays. A great way to protect skin is to use a water-resistant sunscreen applied liberally one half-hour before heading outdoors.

And make sure to reapply at least every two hours or after swimming, drying off or sweating, reported Web MD.
