Although Johnny Depp is currently dating Amber Heard he recently opened up about his break from Vanessa Paradis. The actor admitted that even though, initially it was a "bumpy" ride following the split, he and the actress now have a "great relationship.

Depp was with Paradis for 14 years and the former couple share two children. When they announced their split it sent a shock through Hollywood since they were seen as one of the most rock-solid couples in showbiz, according to the Daily Mail.

However, the actor is now admitting that he still loves' his ex and would happily make a movie with his former flame in the future.

In an interview with the Daily Mirror, he explained, "We're on great terms and there's nothing weird or strange. It's very normal. She's a great mommy and a great woman. If you love, you have to love beyond what you think is love.

"I know it sounds like some sort of Hallmark card, and I don't mean it to, but you cannot abandon ship, you know. You've got a couple of kids and a woman who's been good to you. So keep loving, no matter what."

Depp was happy that the break up did not scar the children and was pleased to know that his kids Jack, 11 and Lily-Rose, 14 took it so well.

"'That's the nature of break-ups, I guess, especially when there are kiddies involved. [The kids] were incredibly understanding and incredibly strong."

The Daily Mail reported that in the candid interview, the actor discussed his struggles with alcohol and suffering a "midlife crisis" during the beginning of his career.

He told the Daily Mirror, "I don't think we have a long enough piece of paper to name the things I inflicted on myself during my mid-life crisis when I was 19 and 20.

"I was asking myself, 'What is life? What am I here for? What shall I do? Does anything matter?' I chose to, let's say, soften the process by self-medication."

The star revealed that he has not touched alcohol for over a year, this may stem from reports that his current girlfriend, actress Amber Heard threatened to leave him if he did not give up his ways.

He his since been sober but managed to make a joke that while he "got along beautifully"with wine and spirits in the height of his drinking, he got "everything" he could get out of booze.
