Hoping to build momentum for the movie release of "Diana," a one-minute teaser trailer hit the viral waves and briefly showed Naomi Watts' portrayal of the late and beloved royal, Princess Diana.
The clip featured no dialogue, instead having relied on an almost haunting piano theme over a quick succession of photos of Watts stepping into Lady Di's shoes. We see quick glimpses of her life with family and luminaries at swanky parties.
Viewers also get a momentary flash of how the Princess of Wales dodged paparazzi in the streets of London.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the Oliver Hirschbiegel film focuses on the late princess' relationship with Hasnat Khan, played by Naveen Andrews, whom she met and spent time with in her last few years. There is a picture of that in the trailer, but again, it is but a teaser image.
But already, the movie looks to be a major thing on film buffs' minds everywhere, with Watts' taking on such an iconic role.
Entertainment One will distribute and release the biopic, written by Stephen Jeffreys, in the UK, Spain, Canada and the U.S., according to Indiewire. Ecosse Films' Robert Bernstein and Douglas Rae produced the highly-anticipated film.
Many people behind the film are very happy that it will see the light of day.
"We are thrilled to be bringing 'Diana' home from Cannes," said Dylan Wiley, VP Theatrical Marketing and Distribution for eOne films, in a statement. '"Diana' will give audiences worldwide not only a chance to fall in love with the Princess all over again, but also discover a part of her life up until now kept out of the public eye."
He continued that "only Naomi Watts could bring such a modern icon to life, through a truly beautiful and nuanced performance."
"Diana" is expected to hit U.S. theaters late this year, and is already the talk of next year's awards season.
