The 2013 Miss World Beauty Pageant changed its game plan, having banned women from showing off their bodies in bikinis to avoid offending Muslims.

Event organizers asked the more than 130 contestants to go more conservative at the annual pageant in Bali on Sept. 28, according to FOX News. They requested that the beauties wear tasteful, traditional specially-designed sarongs for the event's beachwear fashion show.

"There will be no bikini in this year's Miss World Pageant to respect our traditional customs and values," said Adjie S. Soeratmadjie of the RCTI, the event's offical broadcaster and local organizing group.

The effort is an attempt to keep the peace with Muslim-dominated Indonesia, where several hard-line Muslim groups have protested. Soeratmadjie said it is a very sensitive issue discussed at great lengths, with tensions having mounted and controversy been stirred around the pageant for having a habit of featuring skin-baring women.

The pageant, which began in the 1950s, has a history of bikini wearers since its inaugural crowned winner wore a two-piece bathing suit. And in changing direction, the London-based Miss World Organization chairman, Julia Morley, believed the event will be in line with the country's beliefs.

"I don't think Indonesia is the only country that has had that culture, " she said. "But we like to work in the manner respectful to every country, and I cannot see why when you go to somebody's country you should not behave respectfully."

The pageant will take place also in Sentul, an area near the country's capital, Jakarta.
