It is another interesting round of musical chairs at FOX's "American Idol," with both Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj jumping ship after one season.

The fueding judges, who captivated us with their highly-publicized spats, took to Twitter on Thursday to announce their departure, which would allow both to focus on their individual music careers, according to Rolling Stone. Randy Jackson, the only original judge left, had bowed out of Idol after 12 seasons earlier this month.

Though many people expected Minaj's swan song after several reports claimed she was on her way out, Carey's exit comes as a bit of a shock.

Carey tweeted that she was preparing for a forthcoming tour and was leaving, according to the music magazine, but the tweet has since vanished.

The news of the double departure might hurt fans, but the network and show producers wished them the best of luck. They said that Carey "will remain an inspiration for Idol hopefuls for many seasons to come" and that Minaj is a "superstar who brought a level of honesty and passion" to the show.

As for Keith Urban, his fate, like the names of who will replace Minaj and Carey, is unknown.
