A New York City waitress claimed that she contracted Herpes while attending a Rihanna concert at the Barclays Center. The woman has now filed a lawsuit against Mac Cosmetics after a brand representative for the makeup company applied the RiRi Woo red lipstick endorsed by the singer.
According to TMZ, the woman, Starkeema Greenidge, 28, the representative applied an already used herpes infected tube of lipstick to her upper lip and told her to press her lips together and spread it around.
The suit claims that the lipstick was used on the lips of other concertgoers, specifically one who was infected with the STD.
Grennidge told TMZ that the day after the concert, "My whole lip was irritated and hugely swollen."
When she went to the doctor to have it checked out he informed her that she had herpes.
The waitress told the New York Daily News, "I wasn't able to work for two weeks. It cost me a lot of money."
The woman claims that with her pursuit of the lawsuit she hopes to force the cosmetic company into a more sanitary future when it comes to using their products. Greenidge also told the Daily News that the company should look into training its employees to use disposable tubes lipstick or individual swabs when they apply it.
She told the paper, "This is going to happen over and over again if nothing is done."
The suit claims that "(MAC) didn't use a fresh or new lipstick tube, but rather one that had been used for other patrons."
"(MAC) should have known . . . it was unsanitary and exposing patrons to possible spread of disease."
The Daily News reports that Greenidge is requesting unspecified damages and said that the herpes has caused her "mental anguish and emotional distress."
Rihanna signed the deal with MAC back in February to create her own cosmetics line inspired by her favorite MAC red lipstick, Ruby Woo.
