Fashion icons Dolce and Gabbana i.e Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana are facing up to two years and six months of jail time after the pair failed to report $1.3 billion in income tax to authorities.
According to the AP Press, prosecutor Gaetano Ruta told the courts that the designers evaded 416 million euros in taxes and 200 million following the 2004 sale of D&G and Dolce and Gabbana brands to Gado, a Luxembourg-based company.
Authorities believe that the designers made the sale in order to avoid paying taxes in Italy. Webpronews.com reported that Ruta said, "They are the ones who profited most from the operation.
"Gado was an artificial construction made for the tax advantage that was obtained."
The actions of the tax evasions are said to have been carried out with the participation of their board member Cristiana Ruella and accountant Luciano Patelli.
The two other cohorts each received suggested prison sentences from the prosecutor at the Milan courthouse with the harshest sentence being three years.
The Huffington Post reported that although the two have denied the allegations Ruta specifically requested that Dolce and Gabbana each receive two-and-a-half years imprisonment.
Web Pro News reported that Gabbana took to his Twitter account in an effort to claim his innocence, he tweeted, "To be accused of something untrue is not a beautiful thing. But in the end who cares, we will all finish up six feet under." '
"I am interested in making clothes and that's all. They can do and say what they want."
