Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder have been broken up for a while now, but as time passes more details behind the couple's break up begins to come to light. Rumor has it the couple broke up because the actor wanted to talk marriage but his lady leading just wasn't ready for that type of commitment.

The 34-year old actor is 10-years older than his ex-girlfriend and the young actress just was not ready to settle down.

Entertainment Wise, reported that an anonymous source said that Dobrev did not feel comfortable committing fully, "Ian was starting to talk marriage while Nina's just getting started on her career."

According to the International Business Times, even though Somerhalder never really popped the question to Dobrev she gave him an answer about their future, "She felt it was too early to take things to the next level."

A source said that the actor thought that the two were ready to redefine their relationship seeing as they had been together for so long, however the 24-year old starlet could not see herself tied down at such a young age.

"Nina still loves him but isn't ready to make that huge commitment. She's just too young for Ian."

Dobrev and Somerhalder went public back with their relationship back in 2011, according to news.com.au. The brunette beauty admitted in an interview that she did not want to be dating one of her co-stars.

"I didn't want to be dating one of my co-stars - my goal on the show was to be professional," she explained.

"But sometimes you can't help who you have a connection with, and you can only fight it for so long - which I did for a really, really long time."

The International Business Times reported that despite the split "The Vampire Diaries" co-stars remain good friends and that their break up should not be a problem while they film season 5 of their CW hit series.
