The LAPD is now investigating Chris Brown for last week's fender bender, which now looks like a hit-and-run that could land the singer in jail.

Police are trying to determine if there was any wrongdoing on Brown's part, which if so, could trigger a probation violation that could put him behind bars, according to TMZ.

Allegedly, Brown refused to give up his driver's license number immediately after the May 21 Los Angeles road incident, in which he was spotted with now-rumored on-again girlfriend, Karrueche Tran. After rear-ending a Mercedes with his Range Rover truck, he gave the wrong insurance information and gave the other driver, who was a woman, trouble in coughing up his ID, reported the gossip site.

Since the controversial singer was ordered on five years probation stemming from the 2009 assault of ex-girlfriend Rihanna that made headlines, he could easily get reprimanded if the investigation finds that he did something to violate his probation.

If there is probable cause to believe he left the accident scene without disclosing all legally required information to the other driver, he could go to prison for four years.
