On Wednesday, news that Paris Hilton signed a record deal with cash money records hit the Internet. It looks like the heiress will be making a musical comeback with the help of the popular hip hop label that is home to successful rappers such as Nicki Minaj, Drake and Lil Wayne.
The Los Angeles Times reported that although many people believed the deal between the two parties was a joke, Cash Money co-founder of the label Bryan "Birdman" Williams said the deal was a no-brainer.
"She's always supported us, and we've supported her. It was a friendship first," Williams told Pop & Hiss.
"She played us music, and I was taken aback. I was impressed by her music, and I didn't know she could sing so well."
Hilton released a song produced by Afrojack last year that featured Lil Wayne called "Last Night."
Even though the heiress is signed to a hip hop label fans should not expect to see Hilton bust a rhyme anytime soon. Williams said, "Its on the EDM side."
"I want to let her do what she wants as an artist. We're going to support it."
The LA Times reports that Williams expects to drop the heiress' single soon and is expecting a summer release for the album.
The Cash Money co-founder is not worried about any backlash that he may receive from the hip hop community or from fans from either parties in general.
"Controversy and all of that, it works for your benefit," he said. "[Her Cash Money deal] being so talked about shows the strength of her popularity. I'm very excited. I'm very appreciative that she's part of the team. She's very talented, and a beautiful young woman."
