Jodi Arias shed tears throughout the first day of her death penalty hearing as the siblings of her ex-boyfriend, Travis Alexander took the stand and pled to the jury that she receive the death penalty.

Alexander's siblings, brother Stephen Alexander and sister Samantha Alexander gave statements to the jury on Thursday. International Science Times reported that the testimonies were so emotional it brought the jury to tears.

Stephen Alexander told the jury, "Unfortunately I won't ever get the answers to most of my questions about my brother's death.

"Questions like how much did he suffer? How much did he scream? What was he saying? What was the last thing he saw before his eyes closed? What was the final thought in his head?"

A devastated Samantha Alexander took the stand to express the grief and challenges her family has gone through since her brother's murder.

"Our family has bore the burden of extreme financial hardship and loss to be sure that Travis's life was not forgotten, not lost in vain," she said. "To have Travis taken so barbarically is beyond any words we can find to describe our horrific loss."

Samantha who is a police officer told the jury that the photos she saw of her brother are more gruesome then those she has seen in her 11 years of work in law enforcement.

Throughout the testimonies both siblings were forced to stop mid-sentence in an effort to compose themselves and fight back tears. Arias on the other hand was seen with tears streaming down her face, off her chin, and dripping on to her black blouse according to ABC News.

Alexander's brother and sister were not allowed to petition directly to the jury for a particular sentence. They were only allowed to express how Alexander's murder has affected them and what type of person Alexander was. However during his testimony Stephen told the jury that he no longer wants to see his brother's murderer.

According to ABC News, Arias' attorneys petitioned the judge to be let off the case however the judge denied their requests. One of her attorneys, Kirk Nurmi made a comment in his closing argument about how unlikable Arias is.

"Nine days out of ten I don't like her." Arias smiled at the comment.

Arias, 32, were convicted last week of murder for killing Travis Alexander using a knife and a gun in 2008. If she is given the death penalty, she will be the third woman on Arizona's death row.
