On Monday Seattle rapper Macklemore took to Twitter when he became aware that the Oklahoma City Thunder Basketball team was using his and Ryan Lewis' song "Can't Hold Us" to hype the crowd up during home games.
The rapper who is an ardent advocate of his hometown is also a Seattle Supersonics fan. Back in 2008 Oklahoma City brought and renamed the franchise, upsetting diehard fans who have since been lobbying to bring the team back.
According to The Inquisitr, "Macklemore, like many Seattle natives, hasn't forgotten, and he hasn't forgiven. The city is still waiting to see if they will eventually acquire a new NBA team."
The rapper solidified his claim to fame following the release of the song "Can't Hold Us," which peaked at number one on Billboard's Hot 100 chart.
According to ibtimes.com, as a proud Seattle native, Macklemore has expressed his admiration for the city's sports teams on various occasions. "The rapper even recorded the 2011 'My Oh My' as a tribute to deceased Seattle Mariners broadcaster Dave Niehaus."
The "Can't Hold Us," rapper is also friends with head coach Pete Carroll of the NFL's Seattle Seahawks. We can only imagine that the Thunder's use of "Can't Hold Us" to motivate its new fan base is probably not what Macklemore had in mind for his song.
OKC Thunder has not commented on their use of the song or the rapper's displeasure with the news. The rapper does not have any legal power over the choice of music played in the arena.
