This year, the coveted 'Playboy' Playmate of the Year title goes to Raquel Pomplun.

The 25-year-old Latina beauty makes history as the first Mexican-American women to earn the nod since the title's inception 53 years ago, according to Hollywood Life. She is young, "caliente" and extremely popular, noted Playboy founder Hugh Hefner, who announced the news and revealed Pomplun's June 2013 "Playmate of the Year" cover at a luncheon held in her honor at the Playboy Mansion in Holmby Hills, Calif., on Thursday.

Hefner told US Weekly more about why Pomplun was the perfect choice and one special lady. "[The honor is] a reflection of not only Raquel's beauty but her personality as well," he said. "She's gorgeous! But then all the Playmates are gorgeous. I think that what sets her apart is that little extra something. She's so good with people, and that's part of what being a Playmate of the Year is all about."

Pomplun, the April 2012 cover girl, was beyond thrilled about the honor. "It's overwhelming," she told US. "But I can take it. It's a very big honor to be representing such an iconic brand. I'm the 54th Playmate of the Year! And it's so cool. I'm so happy."

The stunner had an accidental introduction to Playboy. At the ushering of a friend who cited her model looks, Pomplun pressed her luck to gain entry into the Playboy club. Initially, she thought it was a risky move, but she is now enjoying the fruits of her labor.

The mulitasker is a member of the Playboy Dancers and host of the well-known staple's radio Playboy Club and Playboy Presents. Aside from working for Hefner, the stunning honoree with the girl-next-door smile and long brunette locks commands attention as a ballet dancer. Though she is not classically trained, she sculpts and keeps her body tight and toned by doing it, according to Yahoo.

She is also a whiz-kid with a serious aptitude for science, having studied biochemistry at Southwestern College.

The June 2013 Playboy issue arrives at newsstands on May 17.
