After being released from Metro Health Medical Center in Cleveland on Friday afternoon, kidnap victim Michelle Knight has shunned her family in the wake of her rescue. Knight who is one of the three Ariel Castro victims that were held captive is resistant to reunite with her family according to the Examiner.
"Reports indicate that neither Knight's grandmother or mother have seen her yet. Knight's brother did spend some time with her, but now per her request he has given her some distance as well."
Knight who is now 32, was held 11 years, the longest by Castro and is also the oldest of the kidnapped victims.
Unlike Berry and DeJesus, Knight did not have much ongoing efforts and attention placed on her. According to the Examiner, there had been an issue with Knight 's mother losing custody of Michelle right before she went missing, and police were convinced she had simply left on her own.
Her feelings about the lack of persistence and support that she did not receive from her family may be the reason behind her shunning them.
"Both Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus have been released from the hospital and are reunited with family. The details emerging in the Ariel Castro case are heartbreaking, as Knight is said to have endured five miscarriages during her captivity."
"Reports indicate she was brutally tortured physically, emotionally and psychologically by Castro during her 11 years of captivity."
Initially Castro has been charged with kidnapping and rape, however the charges will progress as the case develops.
