Chic clothing store Urban Outfitters known for their unique spin on vintage clothing as well as their "out of the box" merchandise has come under scrutiny following their controversial series of medical-themed products.
ABC News reported that products such as their "prescription shot glasses," "syringe shot shooters" and "Rx pint glasses" are intended to be funny however, The Partnership at Drugfree.org does not see the situation as a laughing matter.
"These products make light of prescription drug misuse and abuse, a dangerous behavior that is responsible for more deaths in the United States each year than heroin and cocaine combined."
The Partnership at Drugfree.org even urged their readers to sign a petition posted on their website in order to have the clothing company remove the products.
"Medicine abuse has increased 33 percent over the past five years with one in four teens having misused or abused a prescription drug in their lifetime."
"Combined with alcohol, the misuse and abuse of prescription medications can be especially dangerous, making the Urban Outfitter Rx pint and shot glasses and flasks even more disturbing."
Since being posted on May 1st, the petition has received more than 2,960 people signatures and the number continues to grow.
Urban Outfitters has yet to release a statement about the controversial line.
