"Downtown Abbey" actress Lily James will become a real princess, on film at least. The British beauty has been casted to star in Disney's Cinderella live action adaptation.
In the remake of the 1950 classic fairytale, James will star alongside veteran actress Cate Blanchette who will portray the evil stepmother. James signed on after fellow actress Emma Watson turned town the role back in March.
Disney has yet to cast the roles of Prince Charming and Cinderella's two evil stepsisters.
The Independent reported that before signing Lily James, Disney also considered actresses, Saoirse Ronan, Gabriella Wilde, and Alicia Vikander for the titled role, but could not sign any of the actresses due to their other commitments.
According to Daily Mail, the film will be directed by Thor Helmer Kenneth Branagh and based on a script from Chris Weitz who directed "The Twilight Saga: New Moon."
Cinderella will be Disney's latest live action fairytale movie following the success of Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland," and Sam Raimi's "Oz the Great and Powerful."
Daily Mail reported that Disney also ordered a script for "Beauty and the Beast" from Trance writer Joe Ahearne.
Disney Studio's next release will be Robert Stromberg's upcoming "Maleficent", starring Angelina Jolie as sleeping beauty's evil nemesis.
Production of the live action flick remake of "Cinderella" is expected to begin this year for a 2014 release.
