With talk about her performing on the season finale rumors have been swirling that former "American Idol" judge Jennifer Lopez is set to replace Mariah Carey while the show was in mid-season.

On Wednesday The Hollywood Reporter published a report, after confirming with "knowledgeable sources" that "Idol" executives were considering replacing Carey mid-season to boast ratings.

TMZ.com reported Jennifer Lopez is set to appear on "American Idol" to debut her new single on May 16th. Apparently since Mariah Carey's appearance as a judge on the show ratings have been decreasing and last week was the show's lowest ratings since its debut in 2002.

Fox has since denied the rumors of the replacement of Mariah Carey with Jennifer Lopez, "This is just another ridiculous 'Idol' judge rumor, likely started by talks of Jennifer performing on the finale."

According to FoxNews.com both Carey's rep and "American Idol" producer Nigel Lythgoe agreed with the Fox rep.'s statement Lythgoe said, "I have not been included in any conversation regarding replacing Mariah with Jen this season."

This is not to say that Lopez would not be a great addition to the show since she was a fan favorite and only left the show because Fox was not willing to pay Lopez what she wanted to stay.

This season's judges are constantly bickering, Mariah Carey and rapper Nicki Minaj continuously speaking over one another and are making headlines with the insults the two spew towards each other.

Fox has yet to release statements on which judges will be returning for season 13.
