According to Fox News, Oscar Award winning actress Reese Witherspoon 37, was arrested early Friday morning in Atlanta on the municipal charge of disorderly conduct. State troopers arrested the actress after she refused to stay in the car while her husband Hollywood agent, Jim Toth was given a field sobriety test.
The couple's car was pulled over after a state trooper noticed the vehicle was not staying in its lane. In her mugshot Reese Witherspoon looks intoxicated, the actress recently gave birth to baby son Tennessee a couple of months ago.
Toth, who was driving the car, told the trooper that he had a drink earlier which Witherspoon said was consumed two hours prior. Before the field test was given the actress exited the car and was told to return to it, which she did.
However Witherspoon exited the car once more and was told if she repeated the action she would be arrested. After the actress began hanging out the window expressing her disbelief in trooper J. Pyland's authenticity as an authority figure he told her to "sit on her butt and be quiet."
Failing the sobriety field test, Toth, 42 was arrested, Witherspoon exited the car once again and demanded to know what was going. After refusing to go back to the vehicle the actress was then placed under arrest.
"Do you know my name?" the actress asked the state trooper to which he replied, "No I don't need to know your name.
The actress responded by saying, "You're about it finding out who I am."
Witherspoon then stated, "You are going to be on national news. To which the trooper told the actress that was fine
Following her arrest Witherspoon was released Friday morning and was in New York Sunday night for the premiere of her new flick "Mud." The actress walked the red carpet and posed for pictures but did not stop to talk to reporters.
The multi-award winning actress released a statement late Sunday apologizing for her behavior , "I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said."
Furthermore the actress stated, "It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job."
The actress went ended her statement by saying, "I have nothing but respect for the police and I'm very sorry for my behavior."
A court hearing is scheduled for Monday at 8 a.m in Atlanta Municipal Court. Both Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth are expected to attend.
